How to Perform Eid Prayer Correctly? Learn Its Time, Virtues, and Recommended Practices

Eid Prayer: The Joy of Faith and How to Perform It

Eid prayer is one of the great Islamic rituals that embodies the joy of Muslims during their religious celebrations, specifically Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. This prayer is a manifestation of unity and happiness among Muslims, as they gather to thank Allah for His blessings and favors.

The Ruling of Eid Prayer

Scholars agree that Eid prayer is a **confirmed Sunnah** (highly recommended) based on the practice of the Prophet ï·º, who consistently performed it, as did his successors. It is one of the visible symbols of Islam, and Muslims are encouraged to participate.

The Time of Eid Prayer

The time for Eid prayer begins **after sunrise, when the sun has risen to the height of a spear** (approximately 15-20 minutes after sunrise) and ends before the sun reaches its zenith (before Dhuhr prayer). It is preferable to perform Eid al-Adha prayer early to allow more time for sacrifices, while Eid al-Fitr prayer may be slightly delayed to give people time to give Zakat al-Fitr.

How to Perform Eid Prayer

Eid prayer consists of **two rak'ahs** (units of prayer) without the Adhan (call to prayer) or Iqamah (immediate call to start prayer). The following acts are recommended:

1. **Additional Takbeers**:

   - In the first rak'ah: The worshippers say **seven takbeers** (saying "Allahu Akbar") in addition to the opening takbeer.
   - In the second rak'ah: They say **five takbeers** in addition to the standing takbeer.
   - The worshipper raises their hands with each takbeer, and it is recommended to praise Allah and send blessings upon the Prophet ï·º between the takbeers.

2. **Recitation in Prayer**:

   - After the takbeers in the first rak'ah, the Imam recites **Surah Al-Fatihah**, followed by **Surah Al-A’la** or **Surah Qaf**.
   - In the second rak'ah, after the five takbeers, the Imam recites **Surah Al-Fatihah**, followed by **Surah Al-Ghashiyah** or **Surah Al-Qamar**.

3. **The Sermon (Khutbah) After Prayer**:

   - The Imam delivers one sermon (according to the Shafi’i and Hanbali schools) or two sermons (according to the Hanafi and Maliki schools), reminding people of piety and explaining the rulings of Eid.
   - It is recommended for worshippers to listen to the sermon, though it is not a condition for the validity of the prayer.

Sunnahs and Etiquettes of Eid

- **Taking a bath and applying perfume** before going to the prayer ground.
- **Wearing the best clothes**, as the Prophet ï·º used to wear his finest garments on Eid.
- **Eating before Eid al-Fitr prayer** (preferably dates or something sweet), while fasting until after the Eid prayer for those who will sacrifice on Eid al-Adha.
- **Going to the prayer ground through one route and returning through another**, following the Sunnah of the Prophet ï·º.
- **Reciting takbeer on the way to the prayer ground**, especially on Eid al-Adha.

? Can Excuse Themselves from Eid Prayer

- **The sick** and those unable to attend.
- **Women** if it is difficult for them to go out, though they may join if they wish.
- **Travelers** if they cannot find a congregation performing the prayer.

Conclusion

Eid prayer is an opportunity to strengthen communal spirit and express joy in worship. It is not just an individual act of devotion but a faith-filled celebration that brings families and neighbors together, reminding Muslims of Allah’s blessings. Let us perform it with tranquility and reverence, seizing the occasion to maintain family ties and forgive those who have wronged us.

> *"All of my Ummah will enter Paradise except those who refuse." It was asked, "Who would refuse?" He said, "Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me has refused."* (Sahih Bukhari).

This article explains Eid prayer according to the Prophet’s Sunnah, while acknowledging minor juristic differences among schools of thought. For more detailed rulings, it is recommended to consult a scholar or refer to a specific school of jurisprudence.

Are you predetermined or free to choose?

The issue of fate and freedom of choice in life In the name of God, and that is sufficient, and peace and blessings be upon the Chosen Prophet and those who follow his guidance, for through him they were guided and emulated. Now then, the issue of predestination and free will is one of the most perplexing issues that has baffled Muslim scholars due to its extreme complexity. I have not found an answer that satisfied my questioner's soul except from one of the scholars, Sheikh Al-Shaarawy, who provided a logical answer that satisfied the questioner's curiosity. He said that humans are surrounded by three types of actions, as follows: A1 .A ctions that are inflicted upon them: The simplest example is that  when you leave the house, for example, and find the sky raining or   snowing, or that you find the weather hot or cold. These are actions that are inflicted upon you. If I were to ask you whether you ...
